Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site
Founded in 1881 by Booker T. Washington, the college became a national landmark in 1965 because of its role in education, economic, and social advancements of African Americans in U.S. History. Also part of the site is the Booker T. Washington Monument, the George Washington Carver Museum which showcases his original lab, personal belongings, a myriad of the products he developed, paintings and drawings, and the 5000 acre Historic campus district.
