Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site
Located at historic Moton Field in Tuskegee, Alabama, the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site commemorates the Tuskegee Institute’s participation in the training of African American’s to be pilots during WWII.
This historic site is a memorial to the 15,000 men and women who were a part of the “Tuskegee Experience” during the 1940s. While visiting the Site, you will see exhibits and five films that tell the story of those who trained and served the United States and there is a scenic overlook where you can get an over of the restored Moton Field where the airmen trained.
There are scavenger hunts and coloring pages for the children, as well as a bookstore. Of course, you'll want to explain to your children the importance of this site and what these brave men did in the air and for civil rights. Each Memorial Day weekend there are special exhibits, historic aircraft displays, military fly-bys, aerobatics, and the opportunity to speak with some of the original airmen.
