Talladega, Alabama

by REMac

Established in 1834, Talladega is a center of diverse manufacturing and historic preservation which offers family activities and sports entertainment. And, as it is just a little over 80 miles from Birmingham and about an hour from Anniston, Talladega is the perfect weekend getaway.

If you love getting back to nature, then visit the 364,428 acre Talladega National Forest with its great views of the surrounding valleys. The park is divided into the Oakmulge region and the Talladega region. The Talladega side has lake swimming, fishing, hiking trails, and primitive camping. The Pinhoti National Recreational Trail, on the Talladega side, extends from highway 78 to Cheaha State Park.

The Courthouse is the oldest courthouse in continuous use in the state. You can see Heritage Hall, the Alabama School for the Deaf, and several others schools and colleges.

While in Talladega you can’t miss the Talladega Speedway. It’s more famous that the city as some Nascar fans are surprised to learn that the city came before the raceway.
