Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail
The Selma to Montgomery National Historical Trail (SMNHT) commemorates the 1965 march from Brown Chapel of the AME Church to the steps of the Alabama State capital in Montgomery. This march was the catalyst for the Voting Rights Act.
The SMNHT is a reminder of the ideals of a democratic society, and the repercussions of losing sight of the individual’s fundamental rights. Along the trail are several key landmarks. These landmarks include the Cecil B. Jackson Public Safety Building, the Dallas County Courthouse, the Bloody Sunday Site, the Craig Airport and Industrial Park, the city of St. Jude and the Alabama State Capital.
