Gulf Shores, Alabama

Southeast of Mobile on Pleasure Island is Gulf Shores, Alabama. It is separated from the mainland by the Intra-coastal Waterway. While visiting Gulf Shores you will find much to do—whether it is relaxing on its white sandy beaches as watch the waves crash on the shore, or doing some fishing from charter boats, the piers or freshwater lakes, you will be glad you came.

While in Gulf Shores, be sure to visit Fort Morgan. The star shaped fort was built in 1819 and was used during the Spanish-American War and WWII. You can visit the Fort Morgan Museum which showcases military memorabilia from the War of 1812 through World War II or relax as you fish or picnic at Fort Morgan Park.

For tons of outdoor fun, head to Gulf Shores State Park located on Highway 135. The park is 6,000 acres and has 2 miles of gorgeous beach. You can go swimming, waterskiing, surfing, or fishing in the Gulf of Mexico from the 825 foot pier. There are boat rentals available as well should you wish to spend an afternoon on the water. For drier activity, you can go bicycling, hiking, play tennis, or hit the greens on the 18 hole golf course. The whole family will have a great time when you pack a lunch and have a picnic or cook out on the grills provided at the picnic area and pavilions. Or, if you prefer, you can eat indoors at the park’s resort inn restaurant. Other accommodations include camping facilities and cabin rentals.

More outdoor fun can be found at the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. The 6,000 acre refuge has coastal land that ranges from sand dunes to woodlands and is home to native and migratory birds as well as mammals and reptiles. You can also enjoy swimming, fresh and saltwater fishing and hiking.

If you have your family with you while in Gulf Shores make sure to take the kids to the Waterville USA water park. They will have a blast and you can get some great pictures. They grow up fast you know...
