Birmingham Zoo

The Birmingham Zoo is the oldest zoo in Alabama, and the first to arrange its animals by lifestyle themes. The 100 acre zoo has shaded paths that amble through beautiful landscaping. You can enjoy a train ride around the zoo, visit the outdoor learning center and eat lunch at the sit down restaurant in the converted railroad car.

Of course, the animals are the star of the zoo! At the Birmingham Zoo’s Social Animals building you will see red wolves, orangutans, leaf cutter ants and piranhas, to name a few. If you love the big cats, then don’t miss the Predator’s House. On Monkey Island, one of the zoo’s most popular areas, you will see the energetic spider monkey. Other zoo exhibits are the Birds and Reptiles Building, a Marine Mammals complex, a Small Mammals area and bear grottos.
